The short version

Signed out, your writing never leaves your browser. Signing in adds a backup and a second device, and is the only thing that sends a screenplay anywhere. Nothing you write is ever sold, shared, or used to train anything. Outside the editor, this site shows ads served by Google. “Advertising” below says exactly what that involves.

When you are signed out

Everything you write is stored by your browser on your own machine, in its IndexedDB database. No account exists, no server is contacted, and Plotiva has no copy of your work and no way to get one.

That includes the fonts and the Google logo on the sign-in screen: they ship with the app rather than being fetched, so simply opening the editor makes no request to anyone.

The consequence is worth stating plainly, because it is the other half of the same fact: work kept only in a browser is lost if you clear your browsing data, and it is not on your other devices. Export a .fountain copy of anything you would be sorry to lose.

When you sign in

Signing in is optional, and it is what adds a copy elsewhere.

What comes from Google

Continuing with Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with this app. They are used only to identify your account and to show you which account you are signed in as. Your Google password is never seen by Plotiva. You enter it with Google, not here.

What is stored for you

  • The screenplays themselves: the text, its formatting, and the title page.
  • Details about each script: its title, the author and contact lines you set, revision colour, page and word counts, and when it was created and last changed.
  • Revision drafts, each with a snapshot of the pages at that moment.

These are held in a Supabase database, and every table is protected by row-level security keyed to your account, so no other signed-in person can read or change your rows.

Staying signed in

Plotiva sets no cookies. Your session is kept in your browser’s local storage so that you do not have to sign in each time, and it is removed when you sign out.

Deleting things

Deleting a script hides it everywhere and removes its contents, but a small record that it was deleted is kept so that your other devices learn about the deletion rather than restoring the script from an old copy. That record holds no part of your writing.

To have your account and everything stored with it removed outright, ask. Signing out alone does not delete anything from the server.

Advertising

The editor carries no ads and never will: nothing should be competing for attention on the page you are actually writing on. Ads served by Google AdSense may appear on the guides and the private-writing article. The dashboard, welcome screen and legal pages do not carry ads.

Showing an ad there means Google sets its own cookies and may use your browsing across the sites in its network to choose which one to show. Plotiva does not choose the ad, does not see which one you are shown, and does not share anything you write with Google for this. You can see what Google holds for this purpose, or turn off personalised ads entirely, at Google’s Ads Settings.

Who else is involved

  • Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host it processes the ordinary details of a request, including your IP address, in order to serve the page.
  • Supabase provides the database and the sign-in, and so holds your account and any scripts you have synced.
  • Google is involved in two separate ways: confirming who you are when you sign in, and, outside the editor, serving the ads described above. Neither one reads anything you have written.

Each keeps its own records of the service it provides, under its own privacy terms. No one else receives your data, and it is never sold.

Children

Plotiva is not aimed at children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them.

Changes

If what the app does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is how you can tell.
